Interstate 10 westbound traffic is flowing once again, after a National 600E2 Series Boom Truck Crane doing work on the Biloxi River Bridge collapsed about 7:30 Wednesday morning.
Only one person ran into the crane, and she was not injured. All the other rush hour traffic was able to come to a safe stop.
Why the crane collapsed is under investigation, but it toppled over from south to north, with the crane itself covering all three lanes of the bridge. A tow truck arrived about an hour after the accident and lifted the downed crane high enough to let some cars pass underneath.
The crane has been on the bridge for about two weeks for maintenance work on the structure, including sandblasting.
