The jumbo class NX of PALFINGER’s access platforms is expanded by a new and even larger version: The model P550 inspires with a working height of 55 meters and a reach of 40 meters. What has stayed the same are all the benefits of the jumbo-class platforms in the new generation: An additional X-jib and basket rotation of 2 x 200 degrees ensure that the units are particularly movable. This takes the flexibility of the jumbo class NX to even greater heights.
The introduction of the P480 and the start of the new jumbo class NX are followed by the second PALFINGER access platform in the next generation: The company is launching the next-largest model in the form of the P550. A working height of up to 55 meters and lateral reach of more than 40 meters significantly expand the bandwidth of this class. With a range of 20 meters, the upper boom in particular has even more leeway than that of the P480.
Within that range, the P550 convinces with the particular flexibility that distinguishes the NX class. The additional X-jib between the upper boom and the work basket already proved itself in the P480. It can be controlled individually for especially precise positioning and offers a work area of 240 degrees. This is supplemented by a basket rotation of 2 x 200 degrees. It is just as flexible as a wrist above an extended arm and allows exact orientation.
New application areas
“In the development of the P550, we made sure that we would not sacrifice any free mobility in offering this range,” said Yves Schlessiger, the product manager of PALFINGER Platforms. “This makes our products superior to conventional access platforms and enables entirely new application areas.” Thanks to the sensitive proportional controls, even at especially great heights, the user can precisely direct the jib of the P550 for operations on buildings, masts or even beneath overhangs.
Weight-optimized design
Another great benefit of the jumbo class NX is its weight-optimized construction with special profile structures and light but stable materials. This keeps the total weight of the truck as low as possible and makes it possible to transport more tools, work equipment and materials in the vehicle. The exceptionally large space in the work basket makes its use even more effective. This saves the operator money and time.
Distinguished class
The trade world has already honored the sophisticated concept of the jumbo class NX as well: The jury of the International Awards for Powered Access (IAPAs) has recently selected the P480 as the “product of the year 2015.” The IAPAs were awarded on March 26 at this year’s IPAF Summit in Washington DC and are considered to be among the most desirable honors for access platforms. The prestigious expert jury consists of managers in the industry.
