AN Oldham crane company’s new partnership will send one of its specialist cranes to an island in the Indian Ocean.

UNIC Cranes Europe, based at Broadway Business Park, is sending a spider crane to the French island of Reunion. The crane can lift up to four tonnes, but is only 1.4 metres wide – meaning it can be used in difficult locations. The crane will be used for constructing electricity pylons,

This is the first time the company’s equipment has been used on the island and bosses are confident it will be the start of a successful partnership with local company DMP.

UNIC sales manager Jeanine De Cock said: “We are extremely pleased DMP will provide the spider crane for hire in Reunion. Like us, DMP is a family-run company that prides itself on quality of service. Without this crane, the project would be impossible because of access difficulties. It’s a fantastic piece of equipment; small, convenient to store and operate, but able to handle heavy loads.”

The comapny has already seen the crane used in mountains in the Czech Republic and to install a Bomber Command memorial in Eastbourne.

UNIC Cranes Europe is part of the GGR Group and offers a range of small spider cranes through a network of 30 dealers across Europe and the United Arab Emirates. The company employs more than 100 people across its sites in Oldham, Buckinghamshire and Blantyre in Scotland.
