Worksafe BC is investigating after a worker was killed in an accident on the North Shore Wednesday.

West Vancouver police said the incident happened at a work site just off Cypress Bowl Road around 1:30 p.m.

“A worker was apparently thrown from an excavator when the excavator accidentally overturned as it was being operated at the top of the steep slope,” said Const. Jeff Palmer.

Police, firefighters and paramedics all responded to the scene, where an excavator had accidentally overturned while working at the top of a steep slope. The worker inside the machine was then thrown from the excavator.

The 34-year-old worker received treatment on-site, but was shortly declared dead at the scene.

WorkSafe BC and the BC Coroners’ Service are now in charge of the investigation.
