Huisman in The Netherlands has secured two contracts for cranes for offshore vessels. The first contract is from Japan Marine United Corporation for delivery of an 800-tonne pedestal mounted crane (PMC). The second is from Jurong Shipyard for the delivery of a 100-tonne pedestal mounted offshore crane (PMOC). Both cranes will be built at Huisman China. Delivery of the 800-tonne PMC is due in April 2018; delivery of the 100-tonne PMOC is due in March 2018.

The PMC is the largest Huisman-built pedestal mounted crane to date and will be used for the installation of offshore wind turbines. The lightweight crane is equipped with three optional reeving set-ups to optimize the hoisting of lighter loads and makes use of a custom electric drive system, the components for which will be manufactured by Yaskawa in Japan. It is characterized by its small tail swing, thus optimizing free deck space, and the fact that all of the drivers are installed inside the enclosed crane house. The crane will be installed on a newbuild vessel for Penta-Ocean Construction. GustoMSC is responsible for the design of the vessel.

According to Offshore Support Journal, the 100-tonne PMOC will be installed on Heerema’s new generation semi-submersible crane vessel Sleipnir. The crane will function as auxiliary crane for two 10,000 tonne tub cranes on board, which are also designed and constructed by Huisman. The high spec crane features the typical Huisman enclosed crane house design for reduced maintenance, high speeds and extensive integration with the vessel systems and the tub cranes onboard.
