No one was injured when a Liebherr LTM 11200-9.1 crane owned by TNT Crane & Rigging collapsed during construction on the Osborn Wind Energy Center Monday morning.
An eye witness said she heard a loud boom Monday morning at about 8:45 a.m. The witness, who did not want her name published, said she saw numerous emergency vehicles respond to the scene. A crane and huge wind turbine were on the ground.
Wind farm construction has continued at a brisk pace in DeKalb County, Missouri this year, despite opposition from property owners about the impact on the environment and property values.
Next Era Energy Resources of Florida is looking to build a 97-turbine wind farm called the Osborn Wind Energy Center. Construction began in May.
According to NextEra Energy, the All Terrain crane fell to its side while installing a turbine rotor. The rotor, which includes the turbine’s three blades, also fell to the ground and sustained damage.
