ONE of the largest mobile cranes a five axle Terex All Terrain crane in Walvis Bay tipped over next to the civic center during the lunch hour and crashed onto three vehicles parked in the public parking area.

Municipal officials told The Namibian that all of the vehicle owners were inside the municipal building when the incident took place, so no one was injured.

There are unconfirmed reports that there may have been one person trapped in one of the vehicles, but this newspaper still needs to confirm.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the crane, which was dismantling tent structure on the municipal terrain, tipped when its support stands allegedly sunk into a sinkhole, which allegedly was created by a burst water pipe under the interlocked parking area.

The police are currently investigating.
