Lakeshore Towing Services, Inc in Erie, PA used a 15-ton Grove Down Cab crane to lift a 27-foot-long, 4-ton Bayliner boat that sunk in Presque Isle Bay on July 23.

The boat capsized Saturday in Presque Isle Bay after taking on water in the engine compartment. The U.S. Coast Guard said six people in their 60s were rescued from the sinking vessel.

“The biggest issue was that it was vertical (in the water),” said Eric Guerrein, president of Lakeshore Towing, was on site for the lifting process throughout the day Monday. “It was a challenge to right it under water.”

The boat weighs about 8,000 pounds, “when it isn’t full of water,” said Guerrein, who used a 15-ton-capacity crane to turn the boat upright.
